MVI’s lead aerial observer provided targeted briefings on wildlife protection and permit requirements to SuperStock drivers, Aqua X drivers, and race officials. The sessions included detailed training for the observer team and specific briefings for participants before event activities. A monitoring methodology was developed by MVI, which included four vessel-based monitoring zones covering the entirety of the racecourse and one aerial-based observation platform (helicopter) with a flight pattern covering all four zones.
A total of six observers were provided during the two-day event. All detections of protected species in the area were relayed to race officials. Protected Species Observers (PSOs) called for shutdowns and delays as necessary throughout the races. A pre- and post-survey of the entire course was conducted between races. The event was concluded without incidents to marine protected species, and MVI provided a comprehensive summary report to the client and regulators detailing all observation efforts and mitigation actions taken.
